Year 4, Day 155: Deuteronomy 4

Theological Commentary: Click Here

Discipleship Focus: Obedience

  • Obedience: Genuine and satisfying obedience comes out of our identity.  Our true identity comes only from Father.

The first 8 verses of this chapter are all about obedience.  Look at the juxtaposition that Moses brings out in verses 3 and 4.  Moses reminds the people about those who fell into Ba’al worship at Peor.  He also then says that those who remained faithful to God are alive today for it.  Moses is elevating the concept of obedience before the Hebrew people.

This shouldn’t be any different for us.  When we draw near to God, He will draw near to us as well.  When we are obedient to the Lord, He will provide for us.  He will sustain those who are obedient to His ways.

This just makes sense.  If we claim to be His followers, by definition that means we follow.  In order to follow, we live obediently to His direction!
