Year 5, Day 66: Esther 6

Theological Commentary: Click Here

Discipleship Focus: King

  • King: This is the pinnacle of the Kingdom Triangle.  When we look towards God’s position in the universe, we acknowledge that He is an omnipotent king.  Authority comes from Him.  Power comes through His authority.  He is looking for representatives for His kingdom.

Imagine that you are Mordecai.  You uncover a plot to kill the king.  No reward comes.  Some time later, you find out that a decree has come out of the mouth of the king that your own people are to be killed!  How do you respond?

I’ve got to hand it to Mordecai.  We don’t hear Mordecai grumbling against the king.  We don’t hear him asserting himself into the king’s business.  There is no slander of the king.  Mordecai simply continues to go through life.

I can’t help but wonder why.

How can Mordecai continue to live in what appears to be peace when his people are scheduled to be executed and he never got the reward for his good deed?

I believe Mordecai can do this because he has his eyes set on a higher king.  Mordecai has his eyes set upon the king of the universe.  He knows earthly reward is nothing next to godliness.  He believes God will be the one who hands out true reward, not King Ahasuerus.  Mordecai believes that God is in control, not some earthly king.  Thus, when trouble comes his way and he doesn’t get what he genuinely deserves, he can continue to live in peace.

God honors His people.  His reward never falls short.  If we live with our eyes on the true king, we will know His peace even in the midst of persecution.
