Year 4, Day 274: Judges 13

Discipleship Focus: Calling

  • Calling asks whether or not God has called the person to the particular work at this point in their life.

What a great chapter in which we can look at calling.  Today we get to see Manoah and his wife at work.  They are called to raise up a judge for the Hebrew people.  Here is a barren woman who is given a single child and asked to bring that child up in a godly manner.

When stated that way, it sounds like a pretty typical request from God to parents, isn’t it?  Raise up the child in the ways of God!

But what I love is what Manoah and his wife do with that calling.  They stop and take the time to ask what God means.  They stop and ask God for help.  They admit that they don’t have all the answers and they come humbly before God.  They receive coaching and clarification so that they can be successful.

Here is a model for godly calling.  When God calls, stop and ask what God is asking of you.  Stop and ask God to help you get better at it.  Godly calling embraces humbleness as it turns back to God to find completeness.
