There is a
very simple lesson in Lamentations 5. In
this chapter, Jeremiah brings his mourning to a conclusion. There is no denying that the Hebrew people
are suffering and being punished. There
isn’t even a question about why they are suffering.
The simple
lesson comes at the end of this chapter.
Jeremiah asks that the people be restored. However, he says it in a very important
way. Jeremiah says, “Restore us to you,
for then we will be restored.”
What is this
simple lesson? Only when we are restored
to God will we be truly restored. If we
want to know healing, we need a relationship with the Lord. If we are in punishment or judgment, we need
to seek out the Lord first. Then, and
only then, can restoration be genuine and lasting.
