There are
days that I love the prophets. Their
message is counter what we typically think.
Whenever we have God figured out, we really ought to pick up a prophet and
read.
God tells
Ezekiel to go to a rebellious people.
They are in exile, that’s how rebellious they are! These are the very people who wouldn’t
repent. These are the very people who wouldn’t
listen. God says go to them.
Of course,
we can pull out the stereotypical rationale here. Everyone deserves to hear God’s Word. Everyone deserves a chance. That’s not where I am planning on going,
though. I think there is a more powerful
message than that.
Listen to
what God says. Ezekiel should go
regardless about whether they listen or not.
It isn’t that Ezekiel should go because everyone deserves a chance! Ezekiel should go because it is an obedience
thing. Ezekiel should go because God
wants him to.
Ezekiel isn’t
going to be evaluated based on how many people he wins for God. Ezekiel isn’t going to be evaluated based on
how religious his actions are. Ezekiel
is going to be evaluated on whether he listens to God or not. He needs to go because God asked him to go.
Sometimes
life is actually a lot more simple than we pretend it to be.
