Year 9, Day 129: Ezekiel 3

Theological Commentary: Click Here

Ezekiel 3 sheds more light onto the role of the prophet.  The prophet is a watchman.  He is a declarer of truth.  He is one who speaks with the voice of God.

However, the prophet is not omnipotent.  The prophet cannot force his will.  The prophet is not able to make anyone believe or do anything.  All the prophet can do is proclaim and give people the truth to which they can react.  This is why God sends Ezekiel to the people.  He can’t force them to respond, but he can give them the message.

This is a powerful message.  So often Christians think that the burden of other people responding to Christ is upon them.  That’s just not true.  The burden that rests upon all of Christendom is the proclamation of the truth.  How people respond is up to them.  God knows as much.  God expects as much from His people.

Go.  Proclaim truth.  If we do not, then we the burden will be on us.  However, if we proclaim truth, the burden of response passes from us onto those who hear.  We are free of burden because in our obedience we have listened to God.
