Year 4, Day 220: Luke 11

Discipleship Focus: Identity

  • Identity: Our true identity comes from the Father.  Only when our identity comes from God can we be obedient in ways that satisfy our person to our core.

Luke 11 has several classic stories of identity.  In the opening story, we hear the Lord’s Prayer.  To whom is it we are praying?  Who’s kingdom do we anticipate?  Our identity comes from God.  He provides whatever we need in order that our identity from Him is fulfilled!  He forgives us when we act outside of our identity.

However, as we move through the chapter we see even more examples of identity.  Jesus is accused of being in league with Satan.  If this isn’t an attack on His identity, I don’t know what is.

But look at how Jesus responds!  Jesus points people to God.  Even when people want to give praise to His mother for giving birth to Him and nurturing Him, Jesus points us to God.  His identity is coming from the Father.  Jesus is clear in this chapter. Our identity needs to be rooted in God, nothing else.
