Remember
what I wrote yesterday. The kings of Israel
live evil lives and promote ungodliness.
The political leadership of the land is rotten to its core.
At this moment
in time, Elijah steps up on the scene.
Elijah is considered to be the greatest of all prophets from a Hebrew
perspective. He listens to God. He has intimate conversations with God! He is fed by God’s hands through ravens. Through God’s power he can even be a part of
raising the dead!
I think that
it is really cool to see how God sends an incredibly holy leader into a scene
of incredible unholiness. The greatest
prophet comes to a people who certainly doesn’t deserve him and likely don’t
even appreciate him. Yet, God sends him
because that is where he is most needed.
This is such
a great point. God doesn’t call His
people to lives of ease. God doesn’t
send His holiest of people into situations where their skills and gifts are not
needed. God sends his people into places
and times where they are desperately needed!
Elijah the prophet goes to Israel so that he can be a prophet against
Ahab – one of the most vile leaders of the northern kingdom.
