1 Chronicles
4 is next in the genealogies. There are
a bunch, so strap in and be prepared for a week of names.
Yesterday
was about the search for the Messiah and connecting to the Messiah’s line. Today begins the generic listing of the
tribes. Why is this significant?
The
remaining genealogies talk about normal people.
These are fathers begetting sons.
They are people passing down teaching to the next generation. They are people going about their daily
lives. They are the rest of the Hebrew
people once the priestly line and the Davidic line are removed.
God is with
the normal people. God keeps track of
the rest of us, not just the important leaders.
God is with the people in the trenches of life. God is with the regular joes who are nothing
more than a blip on the radar screen in some genealogy that most people
completely skim over.
That means,
of course, that God is with the normal people today, too. He is with me. He is with you.
