1 Chronicles
7 is almost at the end of the genealogy passages. Unfortunately, there isn’t much else in here
besides what has been said before. It’s a
long list of names without much added.
This can
reinforce the prior messages. Remember
that this is the list of people who were predominantly in the northern
kingdom. They were exiled under the
Assyrians. They could easily have been
lost when the Babylonians conquered the Assyrians. They could have been lost even more deeply
when the Persians came into play. Yet,
here they are. They are remembered. They are a part of the return. God has not abandoned His relationship with
them.
That being
said, do note the relatively small numbers.
The Hebrew people were many hundred thousand – if not a million – strong
in the Exodus. When exiled, they were
reduced to the tens of thousands. After
the exile they are reduced even more.
This goes to
show that the influence of the world is harmful. We do not grow strong when we embrace the ways
of the world. We get sucked into the
world and lose our strength. We become
like the world and less like the Lord.
