Daniel 4
gives us a rather unusual story.
Nebuchadnezzar receives a dream.
He asks Daniel to interpret the dream.
Daniel does, and the dream is fulfilled.
Nebuchadnezzar has a point in his life where he lives rather
wildly. When he acknowledges the power
of the Lord, his life is returned to him and his kingdom is restored.
There are
some really neat things to learn here.
First of all, look at the level of trust that Daniel has with the
king. Nebuchadnezzar calls upon Daniel
to interpret the dream. That means that
he has a level of confidence and familiarity with Daniel. God has lifted Daniel up in Nebuchadnezzar’s
eyes. When we are faithful to god, the
people around us see that we are faithful and respond.
Also notice
that the dream is not a pleasant one.
Daniel still gives a proper interpretation. Daniel isn’t fearful about giving bad news to
the king. Daniel seeks truth before he
seeks comfort and prosperity. Followers
of God will always seek truth before they seek position or power or status.
Third,
notice that the dream actually happens.
When God sends a message into our life, we can count on it. God’s Word is true. God can be relied upon. Nebuchadnezzar does have a moment of insanity
n his life, but he also has a moment of restoration.
This leads
me to perhaps the most important lesson.
God forgives. Yes, God humbles
us. Yes, God allows us to feel the
effects of our sin. But most importantly
God forgives us and allows us to continue to our life. He knows that we will make mistakes. However, He allows us to know restoration
once we acknowledge our mistakes. Once
Nebuchadnezzar acknowledges that God is supreme, Nebuchadnezzar’s sanity is
restored and his life goes completely back to normal. God forgives the repentant.
